Ohio State's Carlos Hyde, Bradley Roby, Joey Bosa receive B1G honors

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Ohio State keeps rolling in player of the week honors, and for the first time in three week, an Ohio State QB doesn't take home the honors.

The Buckeyes traveled to Evanston this past weekend and won a hard fought game with Northwestern, 40-30, to lay claim to their 18th consecutive game. Ohio State wasn't sharp in the first half, but did just enough to hang around, including a blocked punt which ended up being Ohio State's only touchdown of the half.  Trailing 20-13 going into the third, the Buckeye offense relied heavily on senior running back Carlos Hyde who finished with 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. For his troubles, Hyde was named the Big Ten's co-offensive player of the week along with Nebraska' Ameer Abdullah.

On the defensive side of the things, cornerback Bradley Roby once again didn't have one of his best games, missing tackles and getting burned on a couple of plays. But the redshirt junior might have made the play of the game when he blocked the previously mentioned punt leading to it being recovered in the end zone. Roby was named the B1G's special teams player of the week as a result. Coach Urban Meyer improved to 20-0 for his career when his team blocks a punt.

Finally, Joey Bosa earned league freshman of the week honors after finishing with 5 tackles and 2 sacks to lead the Ohio State defense. To go along with the his stellar play, Bosa finished off the night with a defensive touchdown in the waning moments of the game (much to the delight of gamblers everywhere). In the post game, he called the evening one of the best nights of his life.
