In a somewhat surprising development, WV MetroNews is reporting that former Ohio State President Gordon Gee will be named the interim president of West Virginia University.
Gee started his academic career as the dean of the WVU College of Law, and later was the president of the university, from 1981-1985.
WVU Board of Governors Chairman Jim Dailey II had the following to say about the board's decision to hire Gee in a prepared statement:
"We are absolutely thrilled with our selection to lead the state's flagship, land-grant university during an important time in our history," "This individual is uniquely qualified to move WVU forward and continue the momentum we are enjoying. We are anxious for our new president to arrive in the new year, and hope that folks will get a chance to say `hello and welcome' very soon."
Gee had previously planned to teach at the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State. We wish him the very best in his new endeavor, though he'll be missed as a campus staple.
