Gregory Shamus

The second quarter started off with a bang when Connor Cook threw a 72 yard TD pass to put Michigan State up 10-0. After the lead was extended to 17, Braxton Miller connected with Philly Brown for a touchdown.

Starting off with a bang on the first play on the second quarter, Connor Cook found Keith Mumphery for a 72 yard strike to put the Spartans up by ten. Corey Brown tried to jump the route, but wasn't able to get to the point of attack fast enough and with all the momentum, Michigan State was rolling.

In what started to look like a must-score possession for Braxton Miller and the Buckeyes, Tom Herman dialed up a swing pass to Carlos Hyde which only went for a yard against a Spartan defense that was flying around. From there, Miller found Philly Brown for a gain of 9 yards then Miller ran for 10 of his own. On the 45 yard line and facing a third and seven, Braxton Miller was surrounded by Michigan State defenders which resulted in a sack.

The Spartans took over on their own 35 yard line and were faced with a third down and short right away. Connor Cook continued to look poised and delivered a strike to move the chains and the Michigan State offense continued to roll through the air. On Ohio State's 33 yard line, Cook took another shot and connected with Tony Lippett for 33 yards and a score, extending the lead to 17.

Braxton Miller got the offense going with a 48 yard rush into Michigan State territory and then an 11 yard pass to Philly Brown put the Buckeyes in major business. After a Carlos Hyde rush, Miller connected with Brown again for a 20 yard touchdown and Ohio State's first points of the night.

Joey Bosa continued to push the Michigan State offensive line around, getting into the backfield to drop Jeremy Langford for a loss. With another third down presented, Ohio State dialed up some pressure to force a punt.

With Philly Brown getting the ball to the Buckeyes 30 yard line, Braxton Miller tucked it yet again for a 21 yard rush. From there the Spartans defense stiffened, forcing the Buckeyes into a third down. A quarterback draw was unable get pick up the 10 yards necessary and a punt put Michigan State on their own 12.

Right before the half, Drew Basil kicked through a field goal to make it 17-10 at half.
