The biggest news in recruiting from yesterday came from the state of Virginia, where '14 S Quin Blanding told the media he would be announcing his decision next Wednesday, the 27th, at 2:30 in the afternoon. Blanding is reportedly supposed to be picking between either Virginia, Florida State or Ohio State. This really marks the first big announcement of the 2014 class as far as national implications go. Blanding measures in at 6'2" and weighs around 200 pounds. Rated as the best safety in the country for his class, Blanding also is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the country and second in the state of Virginia.
This past season, Blanding had an eye-popping 111 tackles and five interceptions. Quin isn't just a sure-tackler, however, as he brings speed to the table with his 4.50 40-yard dash time. Clemson, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame and West Virginia are also being considered, but they aren't expected to make too much of a difference. Check out Blanding's highlights here:
Meanwhile, Ohio State offered two more recruits yesterday. One coming from the class of 2014, while the other was another 2015 prospect. '14 OL Jermaine Eluemunor actually just moved to the United States from London in 2009, where he stood out in two sports: soccer and rugby. Reports came out that Eluemunor was very pleased about picking up an offer from Ohio State and has already set an official visit Columbus for the Indiana game this fall. Eluemunor is rated as the number one JUCO prospect and has offers from Florida State, Texas A&M, West Virginia, UCLA and many more. Here's some highlights of the JUCO recruit:
The other offer went out to '15 ATH Traveon Samuel. Samuel just recently hit the recruiting wire, but we've already heard great things about his speed and versatility. Standing 5'8", 172-pounds, Samuel has already been clocked in at running a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash. In 2012, Samuel averaged almost 25 yards on kick returns, while rushing for 823 yards on only 83 carries and added 19 touchdowns on the ground. The speedster also hauled in 43 passes for a staggering 734 yards and five touchdowns. The Alabama-native like Auburn early on, but it's up to the Buckeyes to make sure he thinks carefully about where he wants to take his talents. Check out the speed Samuel has in his highlights here:
'14 LB Clifton Garrett has been a large target on Ohio State's radar since last recruiting season, and Garrett's performance at the Core 6 showcase($) showed why. While Garrett doesn't have any other visits planned, he has mentioned he wants to visit Ole Miss, LSU and Mississippi State among other schools. Right now, Ohio State and Ole Miss top his list, which doesn't ease any fears I have about the Buckeyes' chances of landing him. We all saw the magic trick Ole Miss pulled out of nowhere on National Signing Day 2013, and we certainly don't want a repeat, especially if it means Ohio State is missing out.
Finally, Dallis Todd's been a super riser of late. With recent offers from Clemson, Florida, and Texas A&M, the 2014 La Miranda, CA product (who Ohio State was in on before the rush) is really starting to draw attention in the world of college football recruiting. It looks like a trip to Columbus, where the Buckeyes are believed to be the leader for his services, is on the horizon as well:
