Recruiting analysts constantly debate different prospects' ever-changing interests in numerous schools, trying to disseminate between legitimate "interest" and feigned "interest." Few would argue against the premise that the most important tactic to recruit an athlete is to get him on campus. Fortunately for Buckeye fans, young or old, Coach Urban Meyer is bringing in stud after stud to Columbus and churning out stellar reviews of visits to Ohio's capital.
Yesterday, our very own Charles Doss caught up with Maurice Ways, a 2014 receiver from Franklin, Michigan (Detroit Country Day School). Doss was told that Ways plans on visiting Ohio State on March 30th. Currently, Ways does not have a star rating according to most of the recruiting websites, but holds offers from Bowling Green and Toledo and has garnered attention from Michigan, Michigan State, and Pittsburgh. It never hurts to get recruits on campus, no matter how high or low the recruiting rankings indicate of their ability. We'll see if the 6-3, 175-pound receiver blows up during the summer camp circuit and his senior season.
One prospect who, as of now, is VERY highly rated is 2014 athlete/running back Elijah Hood out of Charlotte, North Carolina (Charlotte Catholic). Hood is said to be a Notre Dame lean and will not only be visiting South Bend this weekend, but also Michigan and Ohio State:
We haven't heard anything negative after a recruiting visit thus far in 2013, and let's hope this luck continues. Hood is a special prospect, grading out at 93 overall, the 72nd best overall player in the nation, the 6th best athlete in the nation, and the 5th best overall player from North Carolina, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
Two 2014 prospects who recently picked up Buckeye offers are wide receiver Derek Kief and offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemenor. I peg these two as names to absolutely keep a close eye on, as they seem like Buckeye leans, Kief at least. Kief sat down with Scout.com and is quoted as saying, "my family is really excited as they are pretty big Ohio State fans. They know an offer from Ohio State is a pretty big offer and are excited for me" ($). Eluemenor also spoke with 247Sports, and stated, "he [Ed Warinner] said he likes my film a lot. He said they were offering me" ($).
The last piece of news to note, in case you missed it Monday , concerns a roster update for Ohio State. Drew Basil, the man with the leg for the Buckeyes, is now listed as a Punter/Kicker and not just a Kicker. Could this mean the Buckeyes pursuit of a late walk-on addition to the 2013 class has come to a close? You never know with Coach Meyer at the helm, but it seems like Basil will be honing his punting skills this off-season.
