Ohio State kicks off their earliest spring game on record this afternoon, not from the familiar banks of the Olentangy, but rather those of the Ohio River in Hamilton County in Cincinnati, Ohio. With Ohio Stadium undergoing necessary renovations, Gene Smith and Urban Meyer decided to take the show on the road, not only to benefit Buckeye faithful in Southwest Ohio, but to help broach the often Notre Dame/outsider dominated fertile Cincinnati metro area recruiting scene.
So first and foremost, this isn't exactly football football. But it is a football-like substitute we can cling to for around three hours this beautiful (though cool; expected temperature of around 52 in Paul Brown Stadium at the 1:10 p.m. EDT kickoff) Saturday afternoon until the real thing comes back to us 140 days from now ('sup Buffalo?). The spring game will consist of four 10-minute quarters. There won’t be kickoffs and each possession after a score will start on the 35. Punts will also be fair caught. And the team that scores the fewest amounts of points will have to do some landscaping work at Buckeye Grove. So there's that.
Below is your 2013 Ohio State Spring Game Open Thread. If this is your first time at Land-Grant Holy Land, welcome! This is our second ever spring game (as a site), and we're beyond thrilled to have you. You won't find a more passionate, savvy group of Ohio State fans anywhere. We don't have many rules. Basically just be reasonable to each other, and we won't have to get medieval on anyone. If you like viral Internet-y things, GIFs, and the like, all the better.
In addition to your fellow OSU partisans below, if you happen to take to the Twitters, we encourage you to follow our man on the ground, @38Godfrey. We'll also have some updates/commentary/#hot #springgame #takes @Landgrant33 to boot.
And remember: no matter who scores more than whom, we all win today. Go Bucks.
