Ohio State recruiting: Buckeyes played host to Derek Funderburk Jr

4-star 2016 PF Derek Funderburk Jr. took an unofficial visit to Ohio State this past weekend. See what his thoughts were on the trip.

Per his father, Cleveland Lakewood St. Edward's power forward Derek Funderburk Jr. took an unofficial visit to Ohio State last Friday, Aug. 16. Funderburk Jr., a member of the 2016 class, is coming off a successful summer playing for King James Shooting Stars, in which he caught the eye of various coaches and scouts with his high level play in the post.

"He loved the campus and Coach Matta and Boals. He felt they were very honest and forthcoming," Derek's father, Derek Funderburk Sr. said of the visit. "The facilities were the best he had seen. Everyone from the strength coach, the ops guys, and the academic coach were very easy to talk to, and gave lots of info."

According to Future 150, the 6'8 205-pound forward is a four-star prospect in the class of 2016. Funderburk Jr. is a high-energy player, who can shoot the ball out to the perimeter, in addition to his ability to bang in the post, and get out on the break and run. With his long wingspan, Funderburk Jr. has the potential to become a potent shot-blocker, as he adds strength to his frame in the coming years to improve his interior defense.

According to Funderburk Sr., the family visited Indiana earlier in the year, but don't plan to take any more visits in 2013.

"Derek told me 'being from Ohio and walking on the campus and seeing the history was amazing, O-H-I-O!'", Funderburk Sr., said.
