Ohio State recruiting: Tyler Jordan, '15 OT, talks Buckeye offer

Urban Meyer and co. continue to go to the well in the state of Florida.

Ohio State has made a habit of handing out offers to some of the top players in the state of Florida over the past couple of weeks, with the latest offer being handed out to Jacksonville (FL) Bishop Kenny offensive tackle Tyler Jordan. Jordan's recruitment has been blowing up over the past couple of weeks..

The 6'5, 270-pound tackle received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes when he was on the phone with Ohio State tight ends coach Tim Hinton earlier today.

"Coach Hinton and I were talking back and forth on Facebook and he messaged me and basically told me to call him, so I called him up and he said that he liked my film a lot. He thought I was aggressive and he wanted to offer me a scholarship," Jordan said of receiving an offer from the Buckeyes.

While he isn't too familiar with the Buckeyes just yet, as they just recently started to express interest in his services, he's very excited about the offer, especially after growing up watching Urban Meyer's Florida teams.

"It's a big offer I think because the tradition they have and the school and the winning tradition of the program," he told Land-Grant Holy Land. "Well, I was a big Gator fan growing up so of course Urban Meyer being the coach is a bonus. I grew up watching him bring the Gators two national championships and he's brought that over to Ohio State.

Ohio State is not the only team to have extended a scholarship offer to the rising tackle of late as he has seen his recruitment blow up of late.

"Just in the past hour California and Kentucky have offered me," he said. "Georgia offered me yesterday, Florida offered me the day before that, other big offers I have are South Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Mississippi. I have 15 offers total."

Offers from the elite schools have just started pouring in so he hasn't gotten to know their coaches the best, but there are three school he's very close to right now.

"Best relationship wise is probably South Carolina, Wake Forest, and North Carolina. Just because I've gotten to know them and have talked to them the most," he continued. "Right now I don't have any clear favorites as to where I'm going to go. I'm keeping my options open right now."

He has made multiple trips over the past couple of weeks and there are also still a lot of schools he would like to get out and see before making a decision, with one of them being Ohio State.

"I visited four schools last week. Wake Forest and they offered me. North Carolina had already offered, but I was up there for their junior day, North Carolina State and they offered me, and South Carolina and they offered me," Jordan said. "I definitely want to see Ohio State, I'm going up to Georgia Saturday, and Florida Monday. I also want to see Miami."

When he goes on the visits, there are a couple of thing he's looking for, with the biggest being how he interacts with the coaches hosting him.

"Really the main thing I look out for is how I interact with the coaches and how we get along," he continued. "Then basically when I leave the school I have a list on my iPad where I type stuff I like about it and stuff I don't like about it."

"Probably an earlier decision sometime before my senior season starts," he told Land-Grant Holy Land. "I just want to get my recruitment finished and focus on my senior year.

When he sits down to make his college decisions sometime in the next year, there are a couple of main factors that will go into his decision.

"Education, my relationship with the coaches, relationships with the players in the locker room, the atmosphere in the locker room, and stuff like that."

Jordan has many strengths on the football field, but there are a couple of things he would like to improve in between now and his senior season.

"I'm really balanced overall. I can run block well and pass block well," he said. "What I need to work on is mechanics and little things like that."
