Bracketology: LGHL does Selection Sunday

J. Meric

Matt Brown, Brett Ludwiczak (and later Sam Vecenie) and myself (Luke Zimmermann) took upon the chore of putting together an actual flesh and blood bracket today. We made a couple mistakes, learned a lot about the process through strenuous research in the process, and while we're not super thrilled with the outcome (thanks for nothing, Duke & VCU), we decided we'd post our bracket for posterity's sake.

Our fatal flaw was assuming a hot Duke (or maybe even a victorious Michigan) winning their conference tournament title going away could help them finish ahead of WSU from a seeding vantage, due to their extremely paltry schedule strength. But with WSU sitting 4th in RPI after the ACC and A-10 title games and Kansas having been eliminated (and without Joel Embiid for at least two rounds), that proved our undoing. We spent about 45 minutes to an hour trying to reconfigure things after the St. Joseph's and Virginia upsets, but learned we were too out of gas to completely redo the 4-5 hours of work we'd just undertaken.

None the less, it was a fun project. We'll have to see how we fare versus EBS and other top bracketologists after the brackets are unveiled tonight (SPOILER: Not very well!)
