Canton (OH) McKinley athlete Eric Glover-Williams is one of the top players in the state of Ohio's 2015 recruiting class. He became the first member of Ohio State's 2015 class when he committed to the Scarlet and Gray back in August of last year.
When he participated in Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp last summer, he may have been the camp's top performer. He followed that up with another very good performance, where he also got to meet a lot of fellow recruits, some of which will be his future teammates.
"This year's performance was pretty good. My ankle is a little bit tweaked, but I thought it went well," Glover-Williams said. "It was a great experience just being around everybody and meeting the players in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 recruiting classes."
Glover-Williams talked to Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs before the camp.
"When I first got here, I talked to him and we had a good time," he stated. "He told me to talk to Coach Coombs and he wanted me to play defense, so I played defensive back."
Last year he worked out on offense, but this year he played defensive back, a position he enjoys and is willing to play at the college level.
"I just like being on that island by myself and like to be able to depend on myself on that side," he continued. "It's something I would be looking forward to doing if I come here (to Ohio State). I want to play wherever I can get on the field first. It doesn't matter which position I play as long as I can help the team."
He has played quarterback for Canton McKinley the last two seasons, but is making the transition back to running back this season, under new head coach Thom McDaniels. The new head coach is already making an impact on EGW on and off the football field.
"I'm very excited to get back in the backfield where I was my freshmen year," he said. "Coach McDaniels is a great coach. He's very smart and has taught me a lot of things I didn't know about the game of football; also being a leader and a good person. He's a great coach. You can tell he likes to read books, study, and follow every little step."
It's well known that his commitment status has been up in the air recently. Glover-Williams isn't concerned about his standing with the Buckeyes, however.
"Most definitely," he said. "I'm still going to be a Buckeye. It's 'O-H'."
