From an individual perspective, D'Angelo Russell's first season at Ohio State couldn't have gone much better. He won the Jerry West Award as the best shooting guard in the nation, he was a consensus All-American, won the Big Ten freshman of the year award, and virtually every other individual award he was up for. Now, it's no surprise that Russell is ready to take his talents to a bigger stage. Today, it was reported that he will be leaving Ohio State and declaring for the NBA Draft.
Russell isn't like the last few Buckeyes who left the team early to head to the NBA. According to DraftExpress, Russell is slotted to potentially go fourth overall, and is the top ranked two guard on just about every draft expert's board. With his amazing passing instincts, his three point shooting, and ability to get the basket, all at a young age, Russell should project to be an effective professional basketball player wherever he ends up.
The Buckeyes have some interesting talents at the two guard for next season, including Jaquan Lyle, but will certainly miss Russell's production. Thanks for all the memories, and best wishes to D'Angelo as he continues his professional career.
