Vonn Bell injury: Sophomore safety out for spring with MCL

Bell, who made his first start in Ohio State's 2014 Orange Bowl loss to Clemson, will miss the remainder of spring practice after having surgery on his MCL that he injured today in practice. Bell was a favorite to capture one of the starting safety jobs this spring, but will now have to make his case for the starting role this summer. The Buckeyes will now be even thinner at the safety position as they look to vastly improve the defense.

Ohio State DC Luke Fickell coachspeak goes awry, mentions 9/11

"Like I do everything else. Statistics, at the end of the year you really look back at them to say, do you want to dive into statistics? Where were you in scoring defense? What’s the most important? You can always find something that you can get better at and find something to hang your hat on. But the reality is, you go on battling and if it happens, it happens, and if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. What are you going to do? Live your life worried about everything?"

"How would that be? How much excitement – what would that do for you? So you know what, you’re confident in what you do and you believe in what you do and if that’s what the plan is, that’s what the plan is. I want what’s best for this place. Coach Meyer knows that, and we talked about that from day one. If something is better for this place, then so be it. I want what’s best for my alma mater and my university, but obviously we have enough confidence in what we do and you don’t just look at one single stat."

"I know we dwell upon and everyone dwells upon it, but the reality is is this is a team game. People ask all kind of questions. Why is this the best sport known to man? Because it is a team sport. It is more like life. If something happens to one of your buddies and he doesn’t pick you up, do you de-friend him for the rest of his life? Things like that – that’s what you learn from this. The examples we set for our guys are the same examples we want to live our life by. You can’t worry."

"There was a bombing in the World Trade Center a few years ago, you never want to fly again? What are you going to do? I know that’s comparing two different things, but the reality is you have to have confidence in what you do and believe in what you do, and whatever happens, happens."

Embattled Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell hasn't always been the best at speaking off the cuff. And when it comes to indirectly being asked about one's own job security, it's hard to blame him for coming a bit unraveled. Still, to try and make an analogy to never flying again due to 9/11 is probably a line he could've done without. Now we understand why Jim Tressel never actually directly answered anything.

Ohio State offers 2015 OL Gabe Megginson

Urban Meyer and his staff have handed out many offensive line offers over the past couple of days with the latest being to Jacksonville (IL) offensive tackle Gabe Megginson. Wisconsin is in the driver's seat right now. He also has offers from Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, and others.

Top '15 OT Mitch Hyatt commits to Clemson over Ohio State, Georgia

Five-star offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt committed to Clemson moments ago. He has strong family ties to the Tigers program (uncle played there) and was considered a Clemson lean all along. He had expressed interest in the Buckeyes, but he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to play for Clemson.

Report: Spartans drop '14 DE Darius Slade

According to Steve Wiltfong of 24/7 Sports, Michigan State is no longer recruiting 2014 defensive end Darius Slade because he is taking an official visit to Ohio State in a couple of weeks. The Buckeyes are the heavy favorites to land the underrated defensive line prospect as things currently stand.

Malik McDowell reportedly didn't fax his letter of intent to Michigan State

Malik McDowell committed to the Spartans a few hours ago, but hasn't faxed his letter of intent to Michigan State and rumors are he won't be faxing it today. This is interesting because his parents- especially his mom, do not want him playing for the Spartans. It's very likely he'll end up playing for them, but this is something to keep an eye on until MSU receives his NLOI.

Roderick Johnson commits to Florida State over Ohio State

Offensive tackle Roderick Johnson committed to Florida State over Ohio State a few minutes ago. He has long been considered a Seminole lean, but took an official to Columbus a few weeks ago and had the Buckeyes in his final two. He's an awesome pickup for the national champions.

Derrick Nnadi commits to Florida State over Virginia Tech

2014 defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi has committed to Florida State over Virginia Tech and Ohio State. He visited Columbus a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't seem like the Buckeyes had much of a chance in this race. The Seminoles are getting a very good player.

Raekwon McMillan, Dante Booker Jr. named 2014 Parade All-Americans

The Ohio State commits named to one of the longer running, more prestigious All-America teams. McMillan is a 2014 early enrollee, so you can expect to see him not only in this April's Ohio State spring game, but on the field sooner rather than later.
