Ohio State has found their replacement for Vanderbilt. After reports that the team was possibly scheduling San Diego State to replace the Commodores, the Ohio State athletic department made it official Friday afternoon, announcing that San Diego State will be returning to the Shoe September 7th, 2013 during college football's second weekend during the 2013 season. The soon-to-be in the Big East Aztecs last visited Columbus in 2005 when Ohio State trailed early but ultimately prevailed, 27-6.
In order to help facilitate the move, Ohio State is moving their September 7th game with Florida A&M to September 21st and their game with the Buffalo Bulls from September 21st to August 31st. The Bulls of the MAC are 1-7 in former Cincinnati interim head coach Jeff Quinn's third year as Buffalo head coach following an inspired turn around by Turner Gill. Florida A&M is an FCS team more known for their band than their on the field product.
While the Ohio State 2013 home football schedule doesn't match the excitement of some of the higher profile future games Ohio State's been adding of late, it remains to be seen what sort of role a potentially weaker schedule has on Ohio State and head coach Urban Meyer's ultimate goals with the school's bowl ban then behind them. It'll also be interesting to see how opening with the likes of Buffalo impacts ticket sales that have struggled by and large during 2012 and whether the school continues recent trends of raising ticket prices.
