Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 12/14

Tommy Sanders' status remains in flux but what about a couple other premiere Ohio State targets like 2014 OL Orlando Brown and S Nick Glass?

So when we last heard about Butler Community College 2013 LB Tommy Sanders, the linebacker reportedly was thought by his former tutor to be Ohio State bound but serious questions remained over whether he had a committable offer (or one at all). A number of individuals close to the situation have since come out and provided clarity on the situation:

  • Just about everyone with Sanders' cell phone number heard back from him Thursday morning and the message was clear: he has not committed to Ohio State and still plans to visit South Carolina this coming weekend.
  • Meanwhile, while Sanders evidently still doesn't have an offer at this stage in the game, that's not to say he won't (and perhaps soon).
  • Both Luke Fickell and Mike Vrabel checked in on Sanders Thursday. Even if he's an insurance plan for Trey Johnson or perhaps Christopher Worley, that's a heck of a lot of attention for a fallback guy.
I'd imagine if South Carolina doesn't completely blow Sanders away, the Buckeyes will find a way to make room for him by Saturday...unless of course they've already married themselves to the notion that they could do better.

The Buckeyes also remain on the heels of 2013 running back David Williams. The 6'0" 195 pound tailback is a consensus 4-star in the 247Composite rating and could help add depth to a unit that still doesn't know exactly what they'll be getting in Jordan Hall when he returns from injury (assuming the NCAA grants his redshirt as expected). The Buckeyes have been in contention with South Carolina (said to be Williams' favorite), Miami, Penn State, and Arizona State for Williams' commitment. The latest on Williams is that additional visits to Penn State as well as Ohio State ($) are said to be in his not too distant future. Keep an eye on this one as it develops further.

Finally, we all know all about the famed Glenville pipeline from the Cleveland area down to Ohio State's Columbus campus. What's not as on the radar is the budding one from Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree Ridge High School to C-bus. OSU's benefitted in the past from Bradley Roby and Cameron Heyward both originating from that particular school. Now there could be two more future Buckeye stars that are Suwanee products.

2014 OL Orlando "Zeus" Brown Jr. (son of the late Browns and Ravens lineman) as well as S Nick Glass are both getting visits from the Buckeyes' Ed Wainner shortly ($). Brown visited Ohio State not too long ago and was said to be impressed. We spoke with Glass this past summer and it sounded like though he was committed to Georgia, Ohio State certainly wasn't out of the mix. He also spoke glowingly of fellow Georgian Raekwon McMillan potentially making the trek up to Columbus too. You'd be hard pressed to see any complaints from us or any other Buckeyes fans from that matter if Urban Meyer and company wind up landing all three.
