While all the focus (and justifiably so) right now is on the forthcoming Ohio State class of 2013, as we enter into the home stretch of the dead period and continue the final descent towards National Signing Day '13, it's worth remembering that the end of one recruiting period is just the lead in to another. Accordingly, Urban Meyer and his staff can never stop looking forward. While some in the class of 2013 will make an impact this coming season, looking even further ahead can reveal a longer term road map for the future of a program.
To try and get a feel for what some of the prospective guys that might just make up that future, we chatted with 2014 Chicago, Illinois product, Jamarco Jones. Jones is rated as a 4-star OL by the 247Composite rating and has also received offers from the likes of Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and just about the rest of the Big Ten. Jones recently took an unofficial visit to Ohio State and took in the Buckeyes' 26-21 victory over Michigan. While it's still rather early in his recruiting process, he could have some additional future trips to Columbus in store.
So what do you think of Ohio State right now?
I am strongly considering Ohio State at this point. They are a great program and have a lot to offer me.
You attended the Ohio State-Michigan game. What was that experience like?
The Michigan game was crazy. The environment and the game itself was just great. I really enjoyed it.
Did you hang out with any current Ohio State players after the game?
I had to leave and didn't get to talk to any of the players afterwards.
Have you talked with any of the coaching staff? What have they said to you?
I do talk with the coaching staff and they tell me they really like me. They really have a lot to offer me both athletically and academically.
How did your season go from a personal standpoint? Did you meet any of your goals that you made?
I personally think I played pretty well, and i did reach my goals. I made first team All Conference and state and I was also Offensive MVP of my team.
Do you currently have any favorites right now?
I don't currently have favorites yet. I will have a top list later in the school year.
When do you plan on deciding?
I plan on deciding sometime before my senior season.
Are you planning on taking any more official visits to Ohio State?
I plan on visiting Ohio State possibly this spring or summer. I'm not sure which yet or it may even be both.
What are your thoughts on the improvement of Ohio State's offensive line from recent years?
I was really impressed. Coach [Ed] Warinner did great with them and they were a huge reason for the success of the team.
Do you talk with any other recruits about coming to Ohio State?
I did get to talk to a few others at the Michigan game. We were mostly just talking about what we were enjoying on the visit.
What are your biggest strengths as an offensive lineman?
My biggest strengths are my footwork and athleticism which help me out a lot.
Is there anything you can improve on?
I'd like to improve on my strength and explosiveness.
Thanks again to Jamarco for his time.
