So you're an Ohio State fan and you got a new iPad (or laptop) for Christmas

Happy holidays. Let's talk about how to take those sweet new gifts you got and parlay them into the definitive Ohio State fan experience.

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

Your new gifts will serve you well.
Your new gifts will serve you well.

If you're one of any thousand of individuals who woke up bright and early Christmas morning to unwrap a slick new tablet, smart phone, or computer under the tree, congratulations (and welcome!). We're Land-Grant Holy Land, the fastest growing Ohio State community for Ohio State news and recruiting information on the Internet. Now that we've made your acquaintance, let's talk a little bit about how to get the most out of your slick new personal electronics.

Bookmark us/add us to your home screen

You're going to need the lowdown on all things Buckeyes. Rather than have to Google sleuth to get the information you crave time and time again, simply click on Bookmarks in the upper left hand corner of your screen and then Add Bookmarks/Bookmark This Page:

If you're on an iPad (or an iPhone), you can real quickly and easily add us to your home screen. To do so, click on the Forward button (it looks like a rectangle with a curved arrow pointing right coming out of it) and then click on the "Add to Home Screen button":

Sweet! You've got a point of reference now if you ever need to find your way back.

How to comment/contribute to Land-Grant Holy Land

Look, reading and consuming the latest and best Ohio State football and basketball insight is fine and all, but if you really want to take your Ohio State fan experience to the the next level, it's going to necessitate interacting with Buckeye devotees just like yourself.

First things first, you're going to have to sign up for an account. Don't worry, it's FREE and always will be.

The second best part is that it's rather easy to do so. Simply start by clicking on the Signup link in the upper right hand corner of your browser window:

Next, you'll choose a screen name. It can be a pseudonym, a nickname, a moniker, an inside joke, an homage to your favorite Buckeye, your real name, or frankly, just about whatever you want. Anything blatantly offensive will be subject to the rules/regulations of the SB Nation network of sites, but, we all know you don't want to be known as GoBlue21 around these parts anyways.

After you click "Use (Your Desired Screenname) and Continue", you'll be asked for some brief information. LGHL (and SB Nation) promise to keep your personal information personal.

After filling out those quick eight or so brief fields, scroll down, make sure one last chance you're cool to abide by the rules of our community (we pretty much just ask that you refrain from throwing any of your fellow commenters under the bus), and click Complete.

You'll get an email with a link in it you'll need to click to complete the process (and verify your account), but then you're ready to rock.

Simply go to an article of interest, scroll down to the bottom where the comments begin, and let 'er rip. You can either click reply to an existing comment or start a new thread at the very bottom:

The subject fields are optional (but by no means a punishable offense!). You can add all kinds of cool styling to your comments using the buttons at the top of the Message field and if you really want to take your commenting experience to the next level, check out these sweet commenting keyboard shortcuts (the z-key in particular will change your life):

But we know replying to stuff we write/report on isn't all you want to do. If you ever want to show us your own writing chops or simply sound off on an Ohio State (or Ohio State related) topic of your choosing without writing the "War & Peace" of comments, you can do so with a FanPost. A FanPost gives you access to the same tool we use to compose our posts, and who knows, if it's something we think is particularly awesome, we might even feature it at or near the top of the site. To get started, scroll down about one page length and check out the column that reads "FANPOSTS". There'll be a button that says Post Your Own that if you're logged in you can click and get cooking:

But we know sometimes you don't have a ton to say. Maybe you just want to share a picture, a link, a quote, or make a list of recruits you think OSU should close with. You can do so with our FanShot section. FanShots are basically just any quick and easy item you find interesting that may not fit elsewhere (we'll often add links ourselves to interesting Ohio State stuff around the net we find that might not 100% merit a post of its own but is still definitely worth knowing about). To do so, scroll down until you see FANSHOTS, and then either paste in the URL of the item/link you'd like to share and click the button below or simply click the +FanShot button to get started. Much like with FanPosts, we might just promote yours to the top of the page for everyone (not just the power users) to take in:

How to take your Land-Grant Holy Land experience to the next level

We pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive experience of all things Ohio State. Sometimes that involves discussing breaking news and stories on a medium even more conducive to speed. Accordingly, if you really want to be on top of everything Buckeye related, you'll want to make sure you follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook.

More and more social mediums are making how we consume the sports that we love more interactive. You'll get even more news at it happens, discussion worthy takes, and stuff you won't find anywhere else if you add us to services you were already using anyways. We know Twitter and Facebook aren't for everyone, but the microblogging nature of Twitter can help you stay on top of things before your friends and family even know about them as well as follow games when you can't watch them in person. Facebook can help further discussion between your friends, colleagues, and family when you share items of personal interest. We'd encourage you to give them a chance, and if they're not for you, you'll still have the digital local Ohio State bar/alumni association meet up of our comment section to do right by you.

Pro tips

SB Nation has communities for just about any team you can think of. Whether you're a Browns or a Bengals fan, a Cavs devotee or you carry the flag, we'd encourage you to not let your interactive fanhood experience stop with us.

If you want to have the absolute best experience you can, on a PC, we'd encourage you to use Mozilla Firefox. It's free and updates automatically so you don't have to worry about compatibility with the site. If you're a Mac, Google Chrome is going to serve you best. It's the fastest browser out there, updates automatically as well, and tends to work really well with the site. We'd encourage it for use on PC too, except that the PC version has a major font bug which causes things to look less sharp than intended. Until Google gets that squared away, Firefox is the way to go.

If you've got any questions, feel free to ask them in the space below. Additionally, you can always feel free to reach out to SBN's world class support team if you're ever experiencing any headaches. We're thrilled you decided to spend even a tiny portion of your holiday with us, and hope you come back for the GameThreads (just think an awesome live blog with members of our staff and tons of fellow savvy Buckeye partisans) we do for every major Ohio State sporting event.

Go Buckeyes.
