Ohio State Recruiting Recap: Week Of 9/9/12

Tyquan Lewis, still on the radar of just about every Buckeyes fan out there.

As the Buckeyes continue to enter deeper into the 2012 season, recruiting for the class of 2013 has kicked up a notch. Not many spots are left for the taking, but the coaching staff certainly has an eye on some key prospects. Things are coming to a slow and steady grind for this class and it projects to finish with around 21 commitments when it's all said and done on National Signing Day.

While Ohio State will be focusing their attention on California, staff members such as Mark Pantoni are tasked with trying to continue to build relationships with recruits in order to bring their talents to Columbus.

5-star safety Vonn Bell is without a doubt one of the top recruits on the board for any school. Earlier this week, Bell narrowed his list down to three schools in no particular order. Those schools were Ohio State, Alabama, and Tennessee. Bell will be visiting Tennessee when they host Florida this weekend and hopes to attend Ohio State's game against Nebraska on October 6th, which will be held at the 'Shoe this year.

Once again, 4-star defensive end Tyquan Lewis is on the minds of just about every Buckeye fanatic that follows the recruiting game as he prepares to announce his college decision next Thursday. Lewis is deciding between Ohio State, LSU, and North Carolina. The Buckeyes have been favored for some time now and I don't expect any sort of surprises to occur.

While the coaching staff continues to try to persuade 5-star offensive tackle Dorian Johnson to commit to the Scarlet and Gray, they are also wise enough to not put all of their eggs in one basket. There's no doubt that Ohio State thinks they can land Johnson, despite rumors of him favoring Pitt. In the meantime, the staff has started to focus their attention on another offensive tackle prospect in '13 3-star OT Roderick Johnson. Roderick currently does not hold an offer from Ohio State, but if he takes an official visit, as he has said he will do, there's a very good chance of that occurring.

Roderick was also committed to the Florida Gators until August 12th of this year. While the Gators remain in contention, Johnson does not have a clear-cut favorite to this point. As of now, Johnson is considering Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Central Florida, South Florida, and West Virginia. He will most likely be taking official visits to every school on that list, including the Buckeyes.

Finally, earlier this season we spoke with 2014 athlete Dareian Watkins about the potential of earning a scholarship offer from Ohio State among other things. The road to that goal for Watkins has taken a favorable path, as through three games Watkins has impressed many in attendance. For those not so fortunate to see him in action, he provided highlights of his first three weeks (via Alex/Eleven Warriors):
