Ohio State to don alternate uniforms, pink gloves, socks v Penn State

As had been speculated, a report suggests the Buckeyes are considering wearing their alternate rivalry uniforms Saturday against the Nittany Lions. To add to it, OSU would sport pink gloves, socks to promote breast cancer awareness.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Keeping up with last weekend's trend of multiple teams sporting pink helmets, gloves, and the like to help raise awareness for breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ohio State is reportedly considering again going to the well and wearing their alternate rivalry uniforms (last seen vs. Wisconsin) against Penn State – only this time with pink gloves and socks. As he did with the Buckeyes wearing the uniforms against Penn State, Rivals' Andrew Holleran first reported this information. Holleran clarified that the decision hasn't been made officially yet.

Additionally, according to Holleran, the Bucks' coaches may wear polos with pink OSU logos. Scout.com's Ben Axelrod (formerly of Rivals himself), had previously stated that the Buckeyes might wear the uniforms against PSU, and our Andrew Lind had reported that the Bucks arrangement with Nike allowed them to wear them additional games beyond the previously reported Wisconsin and planned Michigan games. Wearing pink garb would fit into "Pink Out Penn State", which has taken place the past two years (last year it was for the Purdue game).

Though the NFL has been rightly criticized for not donating enough of their profits from pink alternate garbs to breast cancer research, when Oregon recently wore pink helmets and auctioned them off after the game this past weekend, 100% of the proceeds went to actual breast cancer causes. While the gesture is nice for the Buckeyes to help with the cause, here's hoping there's a similar tangible societal net benefit attached as well. We can certainly think of a great, related cause near and dear to all of our hearts.

Though we don't have any additional information at this time, should there be any other tweaks/accentuations to what we saw against the Badgers or this be confirmed more officially, we'll certainly have more as it becomes available.
