The No. 2 Ohio St. Buckeyes had no issues with an over-matched opponent, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament after beating the No. 15 Iona Gaels, 95-70.
The Buckeyes led by as many as 19 in the first half, but the Gaels fought back and trailed by 10 after the first 20 minutes. Ohio State then went on a 9-0 run to start the second half, putting the game out of reach.
Ohio State dominated both ends of the floor, shooting a comfortable 47.9 percent from the field, while holding Iona to 35 percent shooting. The Gaels especially struggled from the three-point line, making only six of their 28 three-point attempts.
The Buckeyes' front line played particularly well; Deshaun Thomas led the team with 24 points, while Sam Thompsonadded 20.
Ohio State will either face the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the No. 10 Iowa St. Cyclones in the third round of the tournament. That game is scheduled to start at 9:45 p.m. ET on Friday.
