Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 5/22 - Brandon Harris sets OSU visit, two new offers

After an eventful day of Ohio State recruiting on Monday, it was going to be tough for the staff to beat out the performance on Tuesday. But of course, they did not disappoint.

Ohio State is still in the process of adding a quarterback to join the talented 2014 recruiting class. After going all-in for Deshaun Watson, the staff has now put out some offers and shown interest to a few prospects to potentially fill that spot. On Tuesday, we got some new information regarding the position.

Perhaps the biggest news came last night when '14 QB Brandon Harris set an unofficial visit to Columbus for May 30th. This will be a huge opportunity for the staff to impress Harris as LSU and Texas A&M seem to be in good position to land the Parkway High School (LA) signal-caller:

The other situation to keep an eye on is '14 QB DeShone Kizer, who tweeted that Ohio State would be coming by his school today to see him. Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman will be the coach that stops by Toledo Catholic Central (OH). Kizer does not currently hold an offer from the Buckeyes but that can all change today.

In the recruiting world, Urban Meyer is known for going after committed prospects and sometimes flipping them to play for him. On Tuesday, Meyer and the Buckeyes dished out an offer to a Virginia Tech commit, '14 ATH Javon Harrison from Kathleen (FL). The versatile 4-star athlete has been committed to the Hokies since July of 2012 and has now picked up his third offer since giving them his pledge. Harrison currently has eight total offers under his belt.

Another Buckeye offer was sent out on Tuesday, this time to '15 ATH Christian Kirk:

The 5'10", 175-pound athlete from Saguaro High School (AZ) is already being pursued by major programs across the country; Florida State, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas A&M to name a few. LGHL's Charles Doss caught up with Kirk to get his reaction on the Buckeyes' offer:

"Coach Herman came to my school and told my coach about the offer. They love my speed and playmaking ability. This is an offer that I have been dreaming about for a while. They told me I would fit into their offense like Coach Meyer used Percy Harvin at Florida; I'm real excited."

The staff was once again out on the recruiting trail on Tuesday. We start with Luke Fickell, who was planting the flag in the Sunshine state. Fickell made a stop to Oakleaf High School (FL) and was likely checking on '14 RB Aaron Duckworth and '14 safety Darrion Owens, who just picked up an Ohio State offer on May 8th.

Ponte Verde High School (FL) was another stop for the defensive coordinator. Fickell attended the spring game of 4-star '14 LB Dillon Bates. After releasing his Top 5 in April, which did not include the Buckeyes, it will definitely be an uphill battle, but clearly Ohio State is still interested. As of now, Tennessee looks to be his leader. Ohio State also stopped at First Academy (FL) to visit '15 TE/DE Garrett Williams. Williams has already received an OSU offer.

Ed Warinner and Zach Smith got into the action too as they headed out to New Jersey. '14 TE Mike Gesicki from Southern Regional had the two Buckeye coaches stop by. Charles Doss caught up with the talented tight end, who spoke about the visit:

"Coach [Ed] Warinner and the WR coach [Zach Smith] stopped by. They said that the whole staff and Coach [Urban] Meyer are very, very excited about me coming out to camp and that if I do what they think I'm capable of doing, I have the opportunity to earn a scholarship offer. I will be going back out for a one day camp on June 21st."

Not only did the Ohio State staff make visits, they made plenty of phone calls, too. One of those phone calls went to big-time wide receiver target Demarre Kitt. The decision date for the Sandy Creek (GA) WR is set and the Buckeyes are making sure they put themselves in good position to land the 4-star pass catcher:

Urban Meyer also gave a call to '14 DB Kendall Gant from Lake Gibson (FL). Gant told LGHL's Charles Doss that the head coach just wanted to get to know him better.

The party as already begun for '15 OL/DL George Brown from Colerain (OH). Brown already has received 26 offers from schools around the country but oddly enough, Ohio State is not one of them. That may change next month, however. The highly recruited Colerain Cardinal will be camping at Ohio State on June 9th.

Speaking of 2015 recruits, the Buckeyes are in good shape with '15 DL Terry Beckner Jr. He told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, that the Buckeyes are in his Top 3 with the Missouri Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks.
