Friday afternoon, Ohio State played host to a group of North Carolina prospects on their way to the fourth annual Midwest Elite 7-on-7 passing camp being held in Detroit, Michigan this weekend. One of the prospects who happened to be on the trip was under the radar class of 2014 running back Shaun Wilson. "It was last minute, but the visit was great," Wilson told Land-Grant Holy Land. "I got to tour the football facilities like the field and the weight room," he added.
As a junior for West Mecklenburg High, Wilson rushed for nearly 1,800 yards and 20 touchdowns while catching 20 balls out of the backfield for another 250 yards and four scores. He didn't just put up outstanding numbers on the offensive side of the ball; the 5-9 180 pound speedster was a threat on special teams, taking a kick off and three punts to the house for the Hawks. His hard work on the field didn't go unnoticed as programs such as Louisville, Marshall, Wake Forest, and Toledo have already sent offers his way. With a gang of other teams expressing early interest, plenty more offers are sure to come his way over the next few months.
Even though other programs are already knee deep in recruiting Wilson, the Bucks are a brand new team on the radar – and from the sounds of things one coach is already familiar with what Shaun brings to the table. "I talked to Coach Pantoni. It was my first time talking to an OSU coach. He said he really liked my film and likes what I can do with the ball in my hands." Pantoni, Urban Meyer and the rest of the staff will get to see his skills up close and personal sooner rather than later. "They want me in camp, so I'm definitely going to camp there."
After visiting Columbus, he is unquestionably looking forward to returning to the 614 and showing that even though the major recruiting sites might not have him ranked highly yet, there is no doubt in his mind he can compete with the best in the nation. With a solid performance at next month's camp, he might just have the chance to live out a childhood dream. "I'm very excited. Ohio State was one of my favorite schools growing up. I really hope I pick up an offer."
