Earlier this week Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff had numerous prospects in town for unofficial visits. A few of those talented class of 2014 recruits were defensive back Quincy Wilson and linebacker Richard Yeargin out of the University School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Chicago De La Salle teammates, offensive lineman Jamarco Jones and quarterback Shelby Spence.
The 6-1 195 pound Spence is the son of one time Notre Dame defensive back Marv Spence and told Land-Grant Holy Land that the Fighting Irish and Michigan Wolverines join the Buckeyes as teams showing interest right now. Even though the under the radar Chi-Town signal caller has yet to pick up an FBS offer, it is certainly something that could happen in the near future.
I had the chance to have a few moments of Shelby's time and asked him how his visit to Columbus went:
"The Ohio State visit was awesome and a great experience. The commitment to winning both on and off the field stood out to me. Additionally, the facilities were top notch. I got a chance to speak with Coach Meyer and Coach Vrabel. I am going to call them back to discuss my recruitment in the near future."
This might not be the last time Spence makes a trip to campus. He stated he is currently thinking about trying to make it back down in late July for Friday Night Lights. Shelby had a great time on his visit but with his senior season creeping right around the corner he is ready to get back on the grind:
Had a great time in Columbus. Now it's time to get back to work!
