When most sport nuts think of Canada, they think of hockey or the long list of stud basketball players the country is starting to produce over the last few years. One class of 2016 football player could change that in the next few years. Patrice Rene, a young but talented defensive back will be one of the many prospects to invade Ohio State for Friday Night Lights this week " It is one of the best camps in the country" Rene told Land-Grant Holy Land " there will be some great athletes there and I'm just eager to go down and compete against them and showcase my talents in front of the coaches at OSU". While in town, Patrice, is hoping to have enough time to check out the Columbus campus and tour the horse shoe before making the few hour trek north to Akron to attend camp with the Zips on Saturday.
Even though Friday will be his first time on campus, the 6-1 180 pound Rene, is already building a solid relationship with Buckeye defensive back coach Kerry Coombs " I've been in touch with Coach Kerry Coombs, I actually met him at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp in Detroit not to long ago. Me and Coach Coombs try to talk at least once a week. We started building a relationship, so I see that connection between him and I".
His relationship with Coombs isn't the only thing that impresses the soon to be St. Peter Catholic sophomore when it comes to the Buckeyes "when I think of Ohio State I think of all the great things that comes with it but the first thing that comes to mind is their tradition" he stated " they have amazing tradition down there at OSU with seven National titles, seven Heisman trophy winners, Coach Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin, the rivalries, so tradition is the first thing that comes to mind". Patrice went on to say he liked how the Buckeyes went undefeated last season and always seem to be "winners and a powerhouse program" and also loves the fact they are smack dab in the middle of "beautiful Columbus,Ohio".
Patrice has yet to receive an offer from Ohio State but already holds scholarships from Akron and Syracuse with many more sure to follow over the next few years. Adding the Bucks to that list would be a dream come true for the Peterborough, Ontario native " Since I am a part of the 2016 class I still have a long way to go in regards of making a decision but nevertheless receiving an offer from the Ohio State University would mean the world to me" he said " OSU has always been one of my favorite schools since the beginning" Rene added " It would be a real honor to have the chance to play at such a prestigious school like Ohio State, also the fact that I would have the chance of playing for Urban Meyer adds excitement to all this" he stated " Coach Meyer is truly one of the best in the business, just look at his resume. I followed him since he was down in Florida and playing for him would be something that I would love".
Mike Wilson formerly of the SB Nation Michigan State site The Only Colors and now a recruiting analyst over at Spartan Digest of the Scout.com network attended the aforementioned Sound Mind Sound Body camp and had the chance to watch Patrice Rene perform " I was impressed with his length and size. He is a legit 6-1 already and has long arms" Wilson told Land-Grant Holy Land. " He still does a good job of keeping his hips low and is fluid in his backpedal. Breaks on the ball with confidence and has all the raw skills of a lockdown corner at a major Division 1 school". From the sound of things, the recruitment of Patrice Rene should be something Buckeye Nation and college football fans in general might want to keep an on over the next few years.
