Blake Thomas, Ohio State tight end, career reportedly over w/ injury

According to a report from Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio State tight end Blake Thomas' career is likely over following a nerve injury suffered during fall training camp a week back. After experiencing a stinger (which was something Thomas had dealt with last season), an MRI revealed a chronic condition that per his father "if he took a large hit..could risk paralysis".

Following a week that already saw the careers of redshirt junior defensive back Adam Griffin and fifth year senior safety Jamie Wood end because of respective shoulder issue, Thomas becomes the third such Buckeye who likely be unable to continue playing football.

Thomas had been a part of Urban Meyer's inaugural Ohio State recruiting class, coming out of Cleveland's St. Ignatius High School. At 6-4, 240 pounds, Thomas was graded as the 20th best tight end in the 2012 class and the 32nd best player from the state of Ohio. He was evaluated as the 523rd best player in the 247's Composite rankings in 2012. Thomas was set to battle with freshman Marcus Baugh for playing time as the Bucks' third tight end before the injury.
