College football is back in our collective lives. Beginning this evening at 6 p.m. ET, there's a jam-packed slate of games including #6 South Carolina taking on "in-state" rivals North Carolina, with the Gamecocks finding themselves double digit favorites against the Tar Heels (-12.5). In these season opening games over the years, the 'Cocks are 5-3 against the spread. They're also 18-1 straight-up when double-digit favorites during the last four years of the Ol' Ball Coach era.
Not to be forgotten, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss kick off SEC conference play underneath the stars in Nashville. While neither team enters this contest ranked, both are rising programs with eyes on taking the next step in 2013. All everything freshman for Ole Miss Robert Nkemdiche is expected to start from day one.
Vanderbilt finds themselves three point home underdogs in this one but wagering enthusiasts (for entertainment purposes only, of course) can take solace that the 'Dores are 4-1 against the spread as home 'dogs under Franklin (they also won last year's matchup between the two schools, 27-26).
Tulsa and Bowling Green (-3) give us a taste of bowl season in August tonight as well, while Rutgers travels to the west coast to face Fresno State (-11) and USC and embattled head coach Lane Kiffin make the trek to the island where they'll meet former Trojans offensive coordinator Norm Chow and Hawaii (+21½).
