The Ohio State Buckeyes had no problem without Braxton Miller Saturday night, easily defeating the California Golden Bears on the road 52-34. It was a home game-type environment for the Buckeyes, whose fans were able to fill out Memorial Stadium quite nicely.
Miller's replacement, Kenny Guiton, wasted little time letting the Buckeye faithful know they were in good hands, throwing for three touchdown passes in the game's first six minutes, including a 90-yarder to Devin Smith.
Cal was able to eke its way back into it, with two touchdown passes from Jared Goff in the first quarter and two field goals from Vincenzo D'Amato in the second. The Bears trailed at halftime, 31-20.
The Buckeyes did not let up in the second half, outscoring the Bears 21-7 in the third quarter thanks to two touchdowns from Jordan Hall and another scoring throw from Guiton. Cal scored again on a one-yard touchdown run from Daniel Lasco, but the game was already well out of reach.
