Ohio State recruiting: 2015 DB Maurice Smitherman talks offer, Urban Meyer

The Buckeyes offered 2015 defensive back Maurice Smitherman today. See what the Alabama native had to say about having the chance to suit up for the Buckeyes and Urban Meyer.

After offering North Carolina defensive lineman Darian Roseboro, Georgia stand outs offensive lineman Chuma Edoga, and wide receiver Preston Williams over the weekend, the Ohio State staff has now given class of 2015 Adamsville, Alabama native Maurice Smitherman a chance to potentially suit up for the Buckeyes.

I caught up with Maurice and had him break down how he found out about the scholarship offer and how it feels to be offered by such a prestigious program as Ohio State:

"I found out about the offer from my coach.  I talk to Coach Kerry Coombs.  My speed and awareness remind them of [Jeff] Demps and [Chris] Rainey from Florida.  It feels great [to have the Ohio State offer]. OSU has a great team this year.  They will probably go to the national championship with a great coach coaching them.  I have always liked Urban Meyer as a coach since he coached the Florida Gators and I would love to play for him."

Smitherman, a 5-11-ish 170 pound defensive back, has well over a dozen scholarship offers including a number from BCS conference programs such as Arkansas, Miami, Texas A&M, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin to name a few.  He has a reported 40 inch vertical jump and according to MaxPreps.com finished with 19 tackles last season as a sophomore for his Minor High squad.
