Ex-Colorado QB Cody Hawkins to join Ohio State as graduate assistant

Well that was unexpected.

With former cornerbacks coach (and co-defensive coordinator) Everett Withers having departed to take on the challenge of preparing James Madison University for a possible transition to FBS football and bringing many of Ohio State's support staff and graduate assistants along with him, the 2014 Buckeyes staff has added a GA to help replace them.

Cody Hawkins, the son of Dan "intramurals, brother" Hawkins, the former Boise State and Colorado head coach, is expected to join the Buckeyes as an offensive graduate assistant. On Urban Meyer, Hawkins told KTVB in Boise's Jay Tust "He's very passionate about what he does; he's a great guy...Very straight to the point."

Hawkins' playing career was marred by quarterback controversy as he struggled to hang on to the starting quarterback role as Colorado Buffaloes QB much of his final two seasons in Boulder. He did help lead CU to the 2007 Independence Bowl where they lost to Alabama and then first year Tide head coach, Nick Saban.
