Ohio State's J.T. Barrett named Big Ten offensive player and freshman of the week

After another eye-popping performance, J.T. Barrett picks up some more Big Ten hardware

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

It's almost becoming a weekly occurrence. J.T. Barrett and the Ohio State offense throw up 50+ points, wrack up eye-popping statistical numbers, and then Barrett grabs some Big Ten hardware. After his performance against Rutgers, Barrett will add to his growing trophy case with his second Big Ten offensive player of the week award, and his fourth Big Ten freshman of the week award.

Barrett was 19-of-31 against Rutgers, throwing for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 107 yards on only seven carries, adding another two touchdowns.

Nathan Scheelhaase won the Big Ten freshman of the week award a record six times in 2010, followed by Penn State's Christian Hackenberg with five times, and Wisconsin's James White with four. Barrett should break all those records if he continues his torrid offensive pace. The Buckeyes face Penn State this saturday, where Barrett will go for his fifth award.

Barrett was also recognized as a Manning Award Star of the week for his accomplishments this past weekend.
