We're building something special -- and we need your talent.
You'd join a family of focused, hard-working, creative and intelligent people who take pride in their work. Our team members have diverse backgrounds and interests wed by a nose for news, digital first sensibilities, and a love for all things Ohio State.
Do you fancy yourself a Buckeye thought leader, a future full-time online sports journalist, OSU beat writer, or recruiting analyst? We'd love for the origins of your rise to the top to begin with us.
SB Nation's Land-Grant Holy Land is the fastest-growing online Ohio State sports media destination site and one of the largest in our space right now. Our network is powered by the most respected web-native sports journalists anywhere -- and that's where you come in.
We're looking to add to our staff in the following positions, though if your interests lie elsewhere (non-revenue sports, Columbus business/sports business, Ohio State campus culture/life, or otherwise), we'd love to hear from you, too.
-Enormous involvement in helping decide what Land-Grant Holy Land looks like as we enter 2015
-Helping manage and develop writers to execute on a collaborative vision with the existing senior site leadership
-Keeping the trains running on time and helping implement best practices to encourage growth and progression
Our ideal candidate has multi-year experience in/familiarity with the Ohio State media landscape, deep online journalistic/editorial chops, and a visionary sense of where Land-Grant Holy Land should head.
Position is stipended based on experience in line with other part-time blog positions with the opportunity for that to evolve and grow into something more.
Ohio State football/basketball news writer/reporter
Our candidate is expected to:
-Own breaking news and submit original editorial features under pressure of the ever evolving 24/7/365 digital news cycle
-Have a good grasp of AP style and be knowledgeable in Ohio State sports and sports history
-Maintain an eagerness to dissect and analyze press conferences and newsworthy events from a macro and micro level alike
-Ensure clarity, grammar, spelling, and factual accuracy while juggling multiple tasks successfully and communicating clearly in a remote environment
-Possess a command of social media and know how to successfully mine it to stay dialed into the latest college sports news
Other notes of importance:
-Some weekends and regular business hour availability is required
-Being Columbus based is preferred but outstanding remote candidates will be considered as well
-Position is stipended potentially based on experience but opportunities for advancement and future compensation are readily available
Previous experience preferred but not mandatory.
Ohio State recruiting editor
Our ideal candidate will:
-Conduct interviews with prep athletes and edit and publish those in an expeditious manner with little guidance or hand holding
-Analyze and report on evolving stories and keep abreast of the latest recruiting developments through social media and networking alike
-Have the ability to hit weekly assigned recap pieces based on the latest Ohio State and major college sports recruiting developments and news stories
-Daytime flexibility is a major plus
Previous Land-Grant Holy Land writers have used their experience with LGHL to obtain opportunities with SB Nation, Rivals, Bleacher Report, Football Outsiders, the city of Columbus, Northeast Ohio Media Group, CBS Sports, The Cauldron, major newspapers (MassLive.com, The Sacramento Bee) as well as professional social media management positions.
