Ohio State breaking out scarlet alternate rivalry uniforms for Illinois

In what's now become the norm in prime time games, Ohio State will wear alternate uniforms at home tonight against Illinois.

For the second time in as many weeks, Ohio State will be donning their rivalry alternate uniforms, the successor to what was formerly called "Pro Combat' uniforms. The Lantern TV first reported the news.

The Buckeyes last sported the look underneath the lights against Virginia Tech in a game OSU fans sorely wish they could have back. A week ago, the Buckeyes sported the white iteration of the jerseys; they'd also worn the home version against Penn State in 2013.

OSU wore the uniforms four times during the 2013 season, including the 2014 Orange Bowl loss vs. Clemson, the previously mentioned PSU game, in the Wisconsin game, and then a white iteration on the road against Michigan. The Buckeyes first debuted this version of the uniforms (albeit with minor tweaks) in the 2012 season-ending victory over Michigan to clinch a 12-0 season.

The Bucks are 8-2 in alternate uniforms, 4-2 in this particular home combination of the jerseys with accompanying chrome helmets.

Here's a better look at the uniforms the Buckeyes are expected to sport tonight:
