Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class gained some additional offensive firepower in shooting guard Austin Grandstaff, who signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Grandstaff, a 6-4, 180-pound shooting guard from Rockwall, TX committed to the Buckeyes earlier this year on May 4. Grandstaff, rated a four-star recruit, held offers from Alabama, Arizona, Creighton, Florida, and initially committed to Oklahoma State, but chose the Buckeyes over them all.
Grandstaff has been compared to Nik Stauskas, Michigan's acclaimed sharpshooting slasher, a comparison which even Stauskas supports. Grandstaff is regarded as a scoring machine, able to both knock down shots from long range and drive the lane, averaging 27 points and 50% shooting last year. And while his defensive game needs work, some time under Thad Matta will get these skills in shape. Grandstaff's offensive prowess will be welcome on a team that has struggled to score in recent years.
