Ohio State may have won the Big Ten East title, but thanks to a lackluster win over a bad Indiana team, where the Buckeyes didn't truly pull away until the fourth quarter, and a lack of big upsets ahead of them, the Buckeyes remain at 6 in the latest playoff rankings. Baylor remains at 7.
The news is not unexpected, nor does it really damage Ohio State's playoff chances in a substantial way. Many of the teams ahead of Ohio State still play big games this week, from TCU tangling with Texas, Alabama and Auburn going at it in the Iron Bowl, Florida State facing a Florida team with nothing to lose and a defense that could make things interesting, and Mississippi State taking on Ole Miss, the lone top 10 team to lose last week. If the dominos fall the right way, and the Buckeyes take care of Michigan, they could still be in business.
Potential Big Ten title game opponents Wisconsin and Minnesota remain ranked, at 14 and 18 respectively, giving Ohio State a shot at one more quality win. Their best win of the season, Michigan State, is ranked at 10.
