Ohio State's J.T. Barrett named Athlon national player of the week

The redshirt freshman was dynamite against Michigan State, and just picked up a deserving nod.

When you beat a top 10 team, on the road, during primetime, people are going to notice. If you throw up an eye-popping box score while you do it, then you get recognized.

J.T. Barrett was dynamite against Michigan State on Saturday, and now the honors are starting to trickle in. The redshirt freshman QB was named Athlon's national player of the week. Barrett is the second Buckeye to win the award this season, after Joey Bosa captured the defensive player of the week after the Penn State game.

Barrett was 16/26 through the air for 300 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while adding another 86 yards on 14 carries and two more scores on the ground. The Buckeyes rolled up an impressive 568 yards and 49 points on the best defense in the Big Ten, and one of the best in the country, on their way to a massive 49-37 win on the road, catapulting them to the driver's seat in the Big Ten East, and right back in the playoff picture.

Congrats on a well deserved acknowledgement, J.T. We suspect this isn't the last honor you'll pick up at Ohio State this season.
