Ohio State freshmen linebacker Mike Mitchell is reportedly transferring according to Kyle Rowland of Eleven Warriors.

Mitchell, who redshirted his freshman year, was rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals and Scout coming out of high school and was expected to compete for significant playing time at the linebacker position in 2014. He was one of two linebackers Ohio State took in their 2014 recruiting class, with Trey Johnson being the other.

During Mitchell's recruitment, he said his father still wasn't able to fly out to see him play, so it's very possible he'll be transferring to a school closer to his home in Texas, in order to be closer to his family. Texas A&M finished second in the race for Mitchell's commitment last year.

Mitchell's brother, Mickey, who is currently a junior in high school and a star basketball player is committed to Ohio State to play basketball starting in 2015 and it's unclear how much of an impact his brother defecting from Ohio State will have on his recruitment.

Fortunately, Urban Meyer and his staff were able to land four linebackers in the 2014 class in the likes of Raekwon McMillan, Dante Booker Jr., Sam Hubbard, and Kyle Berger, which will help soften the blow of Mitchell leaving the program. We could also see redshirt freshman Christopher Worley make the transition from safety to linebacker next season.

Land-Grant Holy Land will keep you up to date in the event more details on Mitchell's transfer emerge.
