Ohio State recruiting: Darius Fullwood previews OSU visit

Olney (MD) Good Counsel defensive end Darius Fullwood previews his weekend visit to Ohio State.

Urban Meyer and company aren't hosting as many visitors as they did last weekend, when over ten prospects were on campus, but there are still going to be a couple of recruits this weekend, including one very big one, in the form of Olney (MD) Good Counsel defensive end Darius Fullwood.

Ohio State offered the 6'5, 240-pound defensive lineman in January, just a couple of weeks after Larry Johnson took over as the Buckeyes' defensive line coach. Johnson and Fullwood have had a strong relationship dating back to Johnson's time on the Penn State coaching staff. In fact, Fullwood told me that he had the best relationship with Johnson of all of the coaches that were recruiting him.

"I think of all of the people who have recruited me, Coach Johnson is the coach I have the best relationship with," Fullwood said. "I've talked to him a lot. He's a really good coach and sent a lot of defensive linemen to the NFL when he was coaching at Penn State."

Fullwood is set to arrive in Columbus Saturday morning and will spend the night in Columbus before leaving to go back to Maryland on Sunday. He is very excited to make it back to Columbus (the last time he was in town was for the Ohio State-Indiana game).

"I just want to get back and get the chance to see the team in a practice environment," Fullwood said. "Also, I want to see coach (Larry) Johnson because he is at a new spot now and get the chance to talk with coach (Urban) Meyer."

He has been in pretty close contact with Ohio State and Larry Johnson ever seen they extended him the scholarship offer a couple of months ago.

"I've been talking to coach (Larry Johnson) about once a week since they offered," Fullwood told Land-Grant Holy Land about his contact with the Buckeyes.

Ohio State is at or near the top of Fullwood's list and a college decision could be forthcoming in the not too distant future.

"They (Ohio State) are high on my list," Fullwood said. "I will decide sometime in May."

In addition to the Buckeyes, Penn State, Kentucky, Miami, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Michigan State, and potential some others could be major players in his recruitment. He unofficially visited Penn State last weekend.

I think Ohio State is in very good position for Fullwood as his recruitment currently stands. Penn State is probably the biggest threat to the Buckeye right now. He's only rated as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings right now, but I see that rating shooting up after camp season.

I will have much more information regarding Fullwood and Ohio State on Sunday after his visit wraps up.
