The spring game isn't the only big recruiting event going on this weekend as Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes hosted a couple of big time visitors today, just a day in advance of the annual spring exhibition
One of the two class of 2015 visitors on campus who has an offer from the Buckeyes was Apopka (FL) fullback/athlete Chandler Cox, who was offered about a month ago.
It was the first ever trip to Columbus for Cox and he had some really good things to say about the trip, which lasted only four or five hours.
"I got to see all the the facilities. The weight room, training room, practice field, locker room, and I got to try on the gloves and jersey," Cox said. "That was pretty awesome seeing that. Then I sat down with Coach Meyer and talked to him for a little while."
He got to spend some actual time with Ohio State head coach while on the visit, which he really enjoyed. Cox also got to spend time with Ohio State running backs coach/assistant head coach (as well as the coach of the Scarlet team in tomorrow's spring game) Stan Drayton.
"It was a really cool experience to know what type of coach he is . Talking to him was just awesome," he continued. "Coach (Stan) Drayton took me around to all of the facilities. He's a really good coach. I really like him."
While he enjoyed almost every part of his time in Columbus, there was one thing that stood out above everything else.
"Sitting down with Coach Meyer in his office and putting on the Buckeye jersey and gloves. That was really cool," he stated. "Then also going into the stadium. That was pretty awesome."
Cox enjoyed this visit so much that he plans to be back in town to take in Ohio State again sometime this summer. On his next visit, he'll definitely get a more in-depth look at the football program.
"Yeah, definitely. I'm planning on hopefully going back soon and spending some more time up there. It was awesome," he said. "I'd like to see the dorms and more of the education part. I know they have great academics there, so I would like to see more of that, and more of the campus life (on my next visit)."
Cox talks to Drayton about once every other week. The two are building a solid relationship.
"I usually talk to him once every two weeks," Cox stated. "We talk about the opportunities I have there and how he wants to sit down with me and watch film when we get the time. Then we talk about the campus, players, and stuff."
Right now he doesn't have a leader, but he did say Ohio State is one of his top school as his recruitment currently stands.
"I don't really have a list, but Ohio State is definitely one of the top schools that I really like," he admitted.
He's not sure when he will make a decision, but it could definitely come before his senior season.
"I'm not really sure yet," he admitted. "Maybe towards the beginning of my senior year or the end of the summer, but I'm not really sure."
When the time comes to choose a specific school, relationships with the coaches will play a major role in his decision making process. Cox is the closest with coaches at Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
"Probably the relationships with the coaches and being able to play early," he said when asked what will be the biggest factors in his decision.
Cox will visit Kentucky tomorrow morning, Tennessee tomorrow afternoon, and Vanderbilt on Sunday. He will also be visiting Auburn next weekend.
