Ohio State recruiting: Dre'Mont Jones enjoys OSU visit but leaves without committing

Top Ohio State defensive end target Dre'Mont Jones recaps his visit to Ohio State for the spring game.

Going into the visit, many people (including myself) thought there was a solid chance the Buckeyes could score a commitment from Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius defensive end Dre'Mont Jones, who has been leaning pretty heavily towards the Buckeyes since picking up an offer a little over a month ago.

Jones had a very good time at the Ohio State spring game, but left Columbus without committing to the Buckeyes as he still wants to see some other schools before making a decision.

"Yes, of course (I thought about committing)," Jones said. "They're really high on my list; they're my number one choice, so I did want to commit, but I wasn't too sure if I was ready. I still want to look at the other two schools I really like."

During the visit, he got to spend some time with Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and defensive coordinator Luke Fickell.

"I got to see Coach (Mark) Pantoni, Coach (Stan) Drayton, Coach (Larry) Johnson, Coach (Luke) Fickell, and Coach (Urban) Meyer," Jones said. "They weren't talking to me about football a ton. It was more about my interest level and about me maybe committing there. I also got to meet some of the players."

He was also very impressed by the atmosphere at the spring game, which featured a large crowd of a little over 61,000 on a beautiful day at the 'Shoe.

"If was really surprised that 60,000 people were there," he explained. "It's only a scrimmage against each other. It was very competitive even though it was just the team scrimmaging against each other."

The other two schools in the mix are Michigan and Notre Dame. He would like to take visits to both schools in the near future.

"University of Michigan and Notre Dame," Jones said of the other schools who are still in the mix. "I want to visit those schools during my spring break, which is a little later in the month or in May."

A decision could come shortly after he makes the visits to Ann Arbor and South Bend. He's looking for the school where he's the most comfortable.

"I'm just trying to find a comfortability level," he continued. "Each school has pretty much the same thing and they're all great schools. I'm just trying to figure out where I'm most comfortable."

Ohio State is his top school right now mainly because of the relationships with the coaches and because he's comfortable at the school.

"The way the coaches talk to me and make it clear they really want me," he said. "They talk to me about more than just football. They ask about my personal life and it seems like there's a family thing with the school.

Jones also really likes Michigan and Notre Dame, but feels more comfortable at Ohio State right now.

"They're both really good schools," he stated. "Notre Dame contacts me almost every day and Michigan contacts me a lot too. I'm comfortable with both schools, but I'm more comfortable with Ohio State right now."

I really like where Ohio State stands with Jones right now and think he'll be a Buckeye when he's ready to make his decision.
