Undrafted free agent signings 2014: Drew Basil to try to make the Falcons

Ohio State kicker Drew Basil will look to make the Atlanta Falcons.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Basil, a multiyear kicker for the Ohio State football team, will look to follow in the proud tradition of Mike Nugent as former Buckeye special teamers making a place for themselves playing professionally in the NFL. Basil's shot at a professional career will begin with the Atlanta Falcons where Basil will look to compete for a shot to make their rookie camp, then veteran camp, and ultimately to become the team's specialist at the position.

Basil, who checks in at 6'1, 212 pounds, hails originally from Chillicothe, Ohio. One of the crowning marks of his career was joining Bryant Browning, current Raider Chimdi Chekwa, now Purdue assistant coach Marcus Freeman, and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Cam Heyward as second place all time in games played for the Buckeyes.

By his lonesome, Basil leads OSU all time in single season extra points and field goal percentage and also ranks third in school history with 169 career extra points. He made 33 of his 42 field goals and recorded 268 points, ninth best all time during his four years in Columbus.
