Former Ohio State LB Mike Mitchell commits to transfer to Texas Tech

The one time celebrated recruit will reportedly head to Lubbock.

SB Nation

After entering Ohio State as one of the most celebrated linebackers in a number of recruiting cycles, Mike Mitchell left the program this past winter in an attempt to transfer closer to home. After considering opportunities with Baylor and Texas A&M, Mitchell has decided instead to transfer to join Kliff Kinsgbury and Texas Tech.

Mitchell, who was a 247Sports Composite four-star out of high school, was redshirted this past season, despite a lack of any real meaningful depth at the linebacker positions for the Buckeyes. Fellow freshman Trey Johnson did see the field some, mostly in mop up duty.

Though some had speculated that Mitchell's departure may have been related to the health of a family member, a source told LGHL a month ago that that wasn't entirely accurate. Mitchell's brother, Mickey, is still currently a 2015 Ohio State basketball commit and expected to head to Columbus after his senior season.
