In a Nutshell: Damien Harris, Torrance Gibson, Sterling Jenkins, and more

"In a Nutshell" breaks down the latest developments in the world of Ohio State football recruiting.

Student Sports

Quite a bit has happened in the world of Ohio State football recruiting over the weekend and we're here to get you caught up on all of the latest happenings as we enter a new week.

Where does Damien Harris' recruitment stand right now?

One of the biggest names the Buckeyes are in on at his point in the recruiting cycle is Berea (KY) Madison Southern running back Damien Harris, who committed to Michigan early in the recruiting process, but decommitted a few months back. The top contenders in the standout running back's recruitment are thought to be the Buckeyes, Michigan, Kentucky, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and USC.

First off, I don't see him ending up at Michigan (though I do think they land Mike Weber). I know a lot of people think the Wolverines are the favorite to land him (again), but the fact is players almost never recommit to a school they decommitted from. Secondly, I don't see him at Kentucky either, even though they're the "hometown team". The Wildcats will need to perform well on the football field if they want to have any chance in this race and I just don't see that happening, especially against an SEC schedule.

I honestly think Alabama, Auburn, and maybe even Florida are the biggest threats to the Buckeyes right now. Harris is nowhere close to making a decision, so all schools recruiting him have plenty of time to make up ground for the nation's top running back.

Torrance Gibson set to name a leader tomorrow. Will it be the Buckeyes?

No, I would be pretty surprised if he named Ohio State as his leader tomorrow. If I had to make I guess I think the Buckeyes will check in at third on the standout quarterback's list with Tennessee and Auburn leading the way.

This doesn't mean I don't think Gibson will eventually end up being in this recruiting class, but he still hasn't made a trip to Columbus, while he has visited most of his top schools thus far. He's expected to visit sometime this summer, and if that visit does indeed take place, I think Ohio State will move into the lead.

If the visit doesn't happen, then I think there could be some reason for concern when it comes to him ending up in this recruiting class. Still, even if a summer visit doesn't happen, he could still take an official visit to Columbus.

This is going to be a long battle and the Buckeyes are definitely a major player as his recruitment currently stands.

Sterling Jenkins announces Tuesday. Where will he end up?

A couple of days ago Pittsburgh (PA) Baldwin offensive tackle Sterling Jenkins announced he would be making his college decision on Tuesday.

Even though they're in the final two, along with Penn State, I would be shocked if he committed to the Bucks, especially because he didn't make another trip to Columbus as he said he might do. He's been leaning towards the Nittany Lions for awhile, and I would be stunned if he didn't commit there Tuesday.

Will Brandon Wimbush be visiting Ohio State anytime soon?

It was though the standout quarterback could be on campus as early as next weekend, but plans may have changed when it comes to that visit.

He recently picked up an offer from Alabama (where he teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick committed a few weeks ago) and there's definitely a chance he takes a visit there before making his final decision.

Things have become pretty unclear on whether or not he'll be visiting Ohio State in the near future, but a visit soon is still a possibility. I think Ohio State needs him on campus one more time if they're going to have a shot at ultimately landing him. If he decides before visiting OSU again, I think Penn State would be the pick.

A college decision could come soon, but he has yet to set a decision date.

Will the Buckeyes make the cut for Darius Fullwood?

Gibson isn' the only player set to trim his list of schools tomorrow as Olney (MD) Good Counsel defensive end Darius Fullwood is also expected to cut his list.

I'm extremely confident the Buckeyes will be on his final list and also think OSU is a pretty big favorite to land the standout defensive end when he announces he commitment later this month.

Penn State might be the top threat to the Buckeyes, but after the Nittany Lions got a commitment from defensive end Jonathan Holland yesterday, the odds of him ending up in Happy Valley likely went down even more.

Any news on the commitment front?

Not much has change in the last week. I still think guys like four-star WR Van Jefferson (when he visits), four-star OLB Sh'mar Kilby-Lane, four-star DE Dre'Mont Jones, and long snapper Liam McCullough are the closest to being on commitment watch, but it's pretty unclear who's going to be the next player to join Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class.
