Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 6/27- Devante Peete latest

There was quite a bit of news on the Ohio State football recruiting front yesterday and we're here to get you caught up on all of the latest happenings.

Buckeyes in top two for standout wide receiver

Ohio State is in the top two for Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Devante Peete, according to Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts/247Sports. He is one of the top receivers in the 2015 recruiting class as a whole and could fill a need on the outside for the Scarlet and Gray.

The in state Miami Hurricanes are the other school in his top two according to the report. This should be an interesting situation to follow and it's very important the Buckeyes get him on campus for a visit as soon as possible.

With a roster loaded with slot receivers, it's important the Buckeyes land a player or two who can excel on the outside in this class. Peete's 6'5, 195 pound frame certainly fits the billing. Peete has been compared to former Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin by some in the recruiting industry.

Buckeyes back in it for Torrance Gibson?

According to his USA Today blog, Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage athlete/quarterback Torrance Gibson said he would like to make a visit to Ohio State sometime over the summer. He added that he would like to make it to Central Florida as well.

I really don't think the Buckeyes are much of a player in this race right now and doubt they'll be a major factor going forward. If he does visit this summer, I may change my thinking a little, but I just don't see the visit happening as things currently stand.

It's difficult to peg a final destination for the dynamic athlete. Right now my pick is Auburn, but his recruitment is very unclear at the moment.

Bucks make the cut for star tight end

The Buckeyes have yet to land a tight end in this recruiting class and there aren't too many guys left on their board. One of the few they're still in on is Olathe (KS) North tight end Josh Moore, who named Ohio State as part of his final six released yesterday.

Joining the Buckeyes in his top six are Auburn, Florida State, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. He's currently planning on attending Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp next month.

With Sam Hubbard moving to tight end and the Buckeyes being in good shape for 2016 in state tight ends Jake Hausmann and Luke Farrell, I'm starting to think we won't see a tight end in the 2015 class and we'll see two in the next class.

However, we'll keep monitoring the situation with Moore and will keep you updated if new information emerges.

Other recruiting news

- Ohio State offered 2016 Sachse (TX) cornerback Jared Mayden II yesterday.

- The Buckeyes also offered Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas cornerback Damon Arnette.

We hope to have more from the newly offered recruits in the coming days.

- Don't forget, Justin Hilliard's college decision is less than a week away. His announcement is set to occur at St. Xavier High School this coming Wednesday at 10 A.M.

I still think the Buckeyes are going to be the pick, but I'm not quite ready to rule out Notre Dame. Obviously if he commits to OSU, he would be the top commit in the "Elite '15" recruiting class.
