There was quite a bit of news on the Ohio State football recruiting front yesterday and we're here to get you caught up on all of the latest happenings.
Josh Sweat to visit for FNL
Chesapeake (VA) Oscar Smith defensive end Josh Sweat will visit Ohio State on July 25th according to Rivals' Adam Friedman. This will be the first visit to Columbus for the standout defensive end, who is ranked as the nation's second best player according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Friedman added that the top five schools for Sweat are Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida State. It's huge getting Sweat on campus as the only school he has visited thus far over the duration of his recruitment is Virginia Tech. He'll likely visit his other top schools this summer too.
If he does in fact make the visit and has a good time, there's a chance the Buckeyes could move up to the top of Sweat's list. He has the potential to be a great player wherever he ends up playing his college football.
Bucks fail to make the cut for Kai Locksley
Standout quarterback/athlete Kai Locksley announced a top 6 of Auburn, Florida State, Maryland, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia Tech yesterday.
It's not a surprise that the Buckeyes failed to make the cut for him as they recently accepted a commitment from in state quarterback Joe Burrow. When it comes to quarterback recruiting for the Scarlet and Gray the only guy sill on the board is Torrance Gibson.
We'll keep you updated on the quarterback recruiting situation going forward, but Gibson is really the only name people should pay attention to at the position as things currently stand.
First OSU camp of the summer set for Sunday
The first of many summer camps is set for this Sunday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, where a couple of solid prospects are set to participate.
Quarterback commit Joe Burrow could be back on campus in order to work with the Ohio State coaches. In addition to him, offensive line recruits Grant Schmidt and Hunter Littlejohn, in-state linebacker Chris Green and top 2016 defensive end Jonathon Copper are also expected to be in attendance for the camp.
We should have more updates on the happenings at camp later this weekend.
Other recruiting updates
- Ohio State defensive tackle target Neville Gallimore was invited to The Opening yesterday just a couple of days after a strong performance at the Columbus NFTC camp.
I was extremely impressed with him at the camp and think he has the potential to be one of the top defensive linemen in the class when it's all said and done. He's nowhere close to making a college decision as he has yet to get a look look at all of the schools interested in landing his commitment.
- The Buckeyes made the cut for standout wide receiver Auden Tate yesterday. Joining the Buckeyes in his top 10 are Michigan, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Miami, Missouri, Maryland, South Carolina, and Clemson.
I'd be pretty surprised if the Buckeyes were able to land a commitment from him, though if they're able to get him on campus at some point, they might have a chance.
- Michigan landed a huge commitment from USC running back transfer Ty Isaac yesterday. Isaac joins a loaded backfield for the Wolverines that includes rising sophomores Deveon Smith and Derrick Green.
Ohio State had requested permission to speak to the standout running back, but it comes as no surprise that he decided to finish out his college career in Ann Arbor.
