Ohio State released their depth chart for the game against Maryland this week, when the Buckeyes travel to College Park to take on the Terps. After an excellent offensive performance last week against Cincinnati, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has chosen to mix up the starting lineup at the wide receiver position.
The first change from last week comes at the first wide receiver spot. Evan Spencer is still listed as the unquestioned starter with Corey Smith as his backup. The difference from last week is that Ohio State freshman Johnnie Dixon was left off of the depth chart altogether (he was previously the backup to Corey Smith) following his season-ending knee tendinitis.
Without question, the biggest change is moving Michael Thomas above senior wideout Devin Smith at the opposite wide receiver position. Devin Smith has been the starter since the beginning of the season, but after a few drops against Cincinnati, perhaps the coaching staff felt it was time to give Thomas a shot at the starting job. I'd imagine Smith will still see the field and plenty of passes will be thrown his way.
The only other change to this week's depth chart comes below Michael Thomas and Devin Smith, where Jeff Greene usually is placed. This week, Greene isn't listed on the depth chart at all, making one wonder what the reasoning behind that is.
