D'Angelo Russell named Big Ten player and freshman of the week

When you drag your team to a road win and a big victory over a ranked team nearly by yourself, you're going to get recognition for it.

D'Angelo Russell had himself quite a week. After earning Big Ten freshman of the week honors last week following a Buckeye split against Michigan and Iowa, Russell outdid even himself, leading Ohio State to a road win at Northwestern, and a huge victory against Indiana. For his efforts, Russell has been once again been named the Big Ten freshman of the week, along with the Big Ten player of the week.

Russell was electric against Indiana, throwing up 22 points, 10 assists and six rebounds, along with a pair of steals to pace Ohio State in their 82-70 win over Indiana. He was even better against Northwestern, scoring a career high 33 points, nailing six three pointers, and took over the game in the second half as Ohio State rallied from an early deficit to hang on to a 69-67 victory. The Buckeyes are now 16-5 on the season, sitting in fourth place in the Big Ten, and only a game and a half out of first place.

A 27.5 ppg average of the week led the Big Ten, and now has the Buckeyes more comfortable in not just their postseason projections, but as a threat to crack the top tier of the Big Ten. A well deserved congratulations to Russell.
