As first surfaced on the Instagram account of Ohio State star D'Angelo Russell of all places, Buckeye basketball reeled in a big fish tonight. Land-Grant Holy Land has confirmed that after taking in Ohio State's emphatic win over Maryland, Huntington, WV (IMG Academy) product JaQuan Lyle committed to the Ohio State basketball team. Lyle checks in at 6'5, 220 pounds and is one of the Top 40 players in the 2015 recruiting class.
Lyle grades out as the eighth best shooting guard, the sixth best player from the state of West Virginia, and the 38th best player in the class overall, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Lyle signed with Oregon last year but wasn't an academic qualifier and went to prep school at IMG Academy in order to make himself eligible to play college basketball.
Though in the Instagram he posted Russell certainly piqued the attention of Ohio State fans by stating "we running tables next year", should D-Russ make himself eligible for the 2015 NBA Draft and be one of the first players selected as expected, Lyle would be a natural replacement at the 2. He also has the ability to play some point guard, too.
Here's the Instagram that caught fire on Twitter late Thursday evening:
