Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets - Bruce Judson update, Larry Johnson could help land elite DE

The latest on former Ohio State commit Bruce Judson, and some high praise for Ohio State's DL coach.

One time Buckeye commit Bruce Judson has been making the most of his recruitment. A four-star recruit out of Cocoa, Florida, Judson committed to the Buckeyes in January, but his commitment didn't last long. Just 10 months later, on October 4, he announced he was no longer certain he wanted to play football at Ohio State.

Judson's de-commitment from the Buckeyes didn't come as a surprise to many. Throughout his commitment, the 5'9, 186-pound athlete never shied away from taking visits to other schools, including hometown schools Florida State and Florida, and a visit to Alabama just a month after decommitting.

A jack of all trades, Judson excels at both the WR and RB position, but also has experience lining up at QB and is being recruited by some schools as a DB. Comparable to current Buckeye Curtis Samuel, Judson has the ability to break open a big play every time he touches the ball. He has a quick burst, giving him the ability to get past blockers when running the ball, or to get behind defensive backs on receiving plays. As he's able to catch out of the backfield, Judson is a great weapon on third downs, an area where the Buckeyes struggled on this year, converting just 39 percent of the time.

Ohio State is still highly regarded in Judson's recruitment, and just because he decommitted from the Buckeyes, it doesn't mean the 2017 ATH won't end up playing football in Columbus. He has made it known over Twitter that he is narrowing down his list of schools he wants to attend, and will likely have them in order soon. Being that he still has one year left in high school, it is still anyone's game.

High praise for OSU DL coach

According to one Buckeye 2017 target, Ohio State has one of the best defensive line coaches in all of college football. According to Bill Kurelic of 247Sports, Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson's prestige may be helping win over four-star WDE Chase Young.

"I'm definitely interested in Ohio State," Young said. "Because they have one of the best or the best defensive line coach in the country, Larry Johnson."

Ohio State offered Young a scholarship in September, but it has long been predicted he will commit to Maryland. Currently, Young has not announced a favorite, and Kurelic goes on to say that he plans to visit to Columbus. Any sort of visit would provide the Buckeyes with a great opportunity to impress the 247Sports No. 97 overall prospect of the 2017 class.
