Thursday shaped up to be somewhat of a slow day for the defending national champions in the recruiting world. Coach Urban Meyer and his staff did not extend any new scholarship offers, but did receive some good news from a couple of prospects as well as visiting another talented receiver prospect.
Former Auburn pledge digs Buckeyes
Until last week, 16' five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers was committed to the Auburn Tigers. As of now, Craig-Myers is back on the market. According to Rivals.com, the country's top ranked wide receiver out of Tampa, FL had some good news for the Buckeyes as he stated he is still very interested in Ohio State. Rivals.com went as far as to say Craig-Myers still considers Ohio State to be a dream school.
With offers from Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and just about every other school in the country, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver will be coveted by a great deal of schools. With Zach Smith and Tony Alford being the primary recruiters for the state of Florida, look for the full-court press on the nation's top wide receiver product.
Assistants visit Mitchell
In keeping with the wide receiver trend, Jeremy Birmingham reported '16 wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell was visited by Ohio State's Zach Smith and Ed Warriner yesterday at Cedar Creek High School. Behind Rashan Gary and Ohio State commit Kareem Walker, Mitchell -- New Jersey's third ranked prospect -- has stated per his twitter account he is nearing a decision regarding where he will play his college football.
With many wide receiver prospects still on the board, such as Austin Mack out of Fort Wayne, IN and Donnie Corley Jr. of Detroit, MI, we will see what happens with the 6-foot-3, 210 pound receiver in the coming weeks.
2017 OL feeling the love
Finally, in the 2017 class, more interest is building from the Sunshine State. Five-star 2017 offensive lineman Calvin Ashley from Orlando, FL expressed his interest in getting up to Columbus to visit Ohio State per Rivals.com.
Calvin is the top prospect in the state of Florida for 2017, per 247sports.com, and it's no surprise considering he stands at 6-foot-7 and 307 pounds. He currently holds offers from Florida State, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Miami, Michigan, and many more.
One side note, Calvin's Twitter states an announcement could be coming soon regarding his commitment. With an incredible 2015 offensive line haul and a good start to the 2016 class with Michael Jordan, Tyler Gerald, and Jack Wohlabaugh, look for the Buckeyes to make Ashley a key target for the 2017 class.
