There are few rookies who wind up making an impact from the start of their career, but it isn't unheard of. NFL.com broke down the Top-100 rookies and not surprisingly, there were two former Buckeyes on the list.
#33 - Devin Smith, New York Jets
This second-round draft pick goes perfectly with the current Jets offense. His speed will be immediately respected, and he'll have plenty of opportunities to make big plays down the field. While the quarterback situation looms for the Jets, Smith will benefit once they confirm a starter and he's able to start building that quarterback-receiver chemistry and trust.
#60 - Michael Bennett, Jacksonville Jaguars
Bennett, while still recovering from a recurring hamstring issue, is said to already hold a starting spot in Gus Bradley's defense. Falling all the way to the sixth-round of the NFL draft, he is one of the better valued players and should his recovery go as plan, he could easily be a big contributor come the fall. It's still too early to try and predict if any of the other Ohio State alumni make their way into a starting line-up their rookie season, but OTA's are coming up and that should narrow down potential stars.
Smith and Bennett may be the biggest names, but depending on how camp breaks down, it's still possible that other Buckeyes, like Doran Grant, end up making a big impact.
Either way, not bad for what was considered a small draft class, right? Just imagine what next season will look like.
