Week four, here we go. Despite a shaky performance against the Huskies last week, the Ohio State Buckeyes remain the top team in the nation, though our claim may not be as strong as it was before the season started. Though our defense continues to look strong, holding the Huskies to 13 points, the offense continues to struggle. A margin of victory that many expected to be over 30 was limited to 7 points, 6 of which came from the defense. Neither of our quarterbacks made it into the endzone, and they threw three interceptions. Potential Heisman candidate Ezekiel Elliott was also locked out of the endzone.
There was some good last week, though. While Zeke was kept out of the endzone, he did manage to run for 108 yards, his eighth-straight 100+ yards game. The defense made two interceptions, one of which was a pick-six by Darron Lee. The defense is doing its part; now the Buckeye offense needs to find its rhythm to match.
Western Michigan isn't quite as good a MAC team as NIU, meaning Ohio State may have a slightly easier time. The Broncos have never won a bowl game, haven't won the MAC since 1988, and are coming into the game 1-2, their first win coming last week against the FCS Murray State Racers. The Broncos are no strangers to the spotlight, though, having opened the season against Michigan State. The Spartans won 37-24, but a 13-point margin of victory may not be enough for Ohio State fans and critics alike. The Buckeyes are 31-point favorites heading into this game, but they have failed to cover the spread in their last two games. If Ohio State wants to start silencing the haters, they're going to need to make a statement today.
